Skynet X-Band Satellite Communication

Astrium Services owns and operates the fleet of seven Skynet  X-band and UHF satellites, providing satellite communications to militaries and government organisations worldwide.

Astrium Services is the only supplier to ISAF and the largest supplier to NATO.

The Skynet 5 satellites are the most powerful and flexible commercially controlled military X-band satellites launched to date with 160W transponders, multiple fully steerable downlink spot beams and high performance active receive antenna capable of generating multiple shaped uplink beams.

Since the launch of Skynet 5D on December 19th 2012 and with a pending launch of Anik G1, Astrium Services will own 2.6GHz of X-band satellite communication bandwidth coverage extending from 178 ˚W to 135 ˚E.
